2008 has been an exciting year here at Technology Solutions of Tennessee, LLC. We have grown from our 1st starter warehouse to our new 5, 000 sq ft facility in the Blount County Industrial Park. In January 2009 we will be moving into another section of warehousing to make our space 10,000 square feet! Unfortunately, all the excitement of our company's growth has been overshadowed by the poor state of our domestic and world economy.
Over the last two years we have seen fewer IT assets being retired and a plunge in the metals market, the backbone of the electronics recycling industry. As we have done from the start of our company we strive to work with domestic and Canadian recycling partners to process our electronic materials and not export to the third world. Unfortunately, the collapse of the metals market has eliminated this niche. Many recyclers are being forced to close their doors or start exploring overseas export markets as was evidenced in the recent expose “Following the Trail of Toxic E-Waste” produced by 60 minutes.
To keep this promise to our loyal customers, we must institute recycling fees to insure that our clients material is properly recycled here in the United States and Canada. We are entertaining pricing and contracts from responsible domestic environmental companies that have signed the Basel Action Network Electronics Recycler’s Pledge of True Stewardship (http://www.ban.org/pledge/Locations.htm) which has become the E-Stewards Initiative. http://www.e-stewards.org/index.html This association of processors will now handle all of our different forms of electronics.
As stated above, the devaluation of whole electronic scrap by the market collapse now forces these companies to charge for materials they once paid us for. To insure the same level of quality we must pass this processing cost on to our customers. Starting January 1st, 2009 we will be charging a fee for certain items we collect. We already have fees for television sets and we will be adding fees for CRT monitors, copiers, printers, and other items. We will be sending out our price list in early December 2008 and we will be glad to answer questions for any of our clients. We also understand that some clients will choose not to pay recycling fees. We want to caution our clients that recycling fees are being implemented across the industry and to be careful to check the final destination of their material for operations that do not charge for recycling.

2009 Recycling Fees
Here is a pricing outline for January 1st 2009. We are not charging for pickups in Blount and Knox county and asset reporting is available for $1.00 per item. All pickups will be reported by the job and information on our downstream processors of all material will be available upon request. Our facilities and those of our processors in our downstream will be available for audit and inspection by appt. We will invoice each client after the items have been picked up and processed.
We will caution our clients to be careful dealing with companies that provide recycling at no charge. The domestic market does not support "no charge" recycling at this time. Make sure and find out exactly where your material is going for any free service. The EPA
is actively doing "Green Audits" of businesses and NON-Profits at this time in East Tennessee.

UNACCEPTABLE ITEMS
Some items we do not take are based on EPA regulations and health and exposure concerns for our employees.
Medical Radiological Eqpt: X-ray machines, etc.
Biological Eqpt: Any items used in health care for humans or animals, any and all lab eqpt.
Kitchen Appliances: We do not accept Refrigerators, Ovens, Microwaves, Stoves, etc. No small health and beauty items either.
Mucous membrane contact items: We do not accept mouthpieces, headphones, microphones, phone handsets, earplugs, etc. If you would like to recycle your Ipod or Walkman, please keep your headphones or cutoff the earbuds before bringing them in.
Infested Items: Any piece of equipment that has rodent or insect infestation or mold or body fluids will not be accepted.
